Filter-Focus, Winter 2004/2005

Our fifth edition of Filter-Focus highlights filtration challenges with a feature article on high permeable fabrics.  We follow with the benefits of PPS fibers.  We are staying on top of industry trends and current events relating to filtration but our focus continues to be our customers and National Nonwovens’ ability to provide them with the best filtration fabrics utilizing our superior needling and finishing processes.

Below is Part 5 in National Nonwovens’ continuing Filtration Challenges series,
which discusses solutions to the industry’s difficult challenges.

Filtration Challenge 5: Design a Puncture Resistant Filter Material for Multi-purpose Applications

In today's world of safety regulations and codes, it is mandatory for certain consumers to have a filter material that has high permeability and low pressure drop that can prevent nails, glass, and stones from penetrating through their filter materials. The fabric must be impenetrable even at speeds of 200 miles per hour.

Solution:  Filter 2 - National Nonwovens' engineers developed a 100% polyester filter felt for commercial lawn mower bags, vacuums, off road vehicle filtration, and desiccant bags.

Features of the FIL002 are:

bullet

Material can be washed to extend the life of the fabric

bullet

Permeability of 70-110 (cfm's)

bullet

Will not unravel like a woven fabric when punctured

bullet

Easy to cut and fabricate

bullet

Can be sewn and or seamed with ultra sonics

bullet

Thermally stable up to 300°F

Amanda Butler:   Product Manager of the Filtration Division

National Nonwovens has appointed Amanda Butler to the Product Manager position for their Filtration Division specializing in High Performance Engineered Nonwovens. She will lead the effort to increase the use and understanding of nonwoven materials in the filtration industry by demonstrating the effectiveness of National Nonwovens wide array of wet and dry filter medias engineered for improved tensile strength, efficiency and permeability.

Butler has an impressive background including fifteen years in needledpunched nonwovens with extensive experience with liquid/air filtration and industrial textiles. She has a solid knowledge and understanding of operations and sales. Originally from the U.K., Butler currently resides in Maryland with her husband.

Butler’s primary responsibility is to expand National Nonwovens presence in the Filtration Industry with an approach to tailoring products to customers’ unique applications. Included in National Nonwovens’ innovative filtration product line are pre-filters with weights ranging from 3.5 to 6.2 oz. The material is designed for maximum resiliency, high depth-loading capacity, and maximum modulus with a unique composite structure that will increase its strength and efficiency. Other filter medias include PurusFelt®, HepaFelt® sub-micron filtration, and Dual Density filtration composites. National Nonwovens’ dedication to nonwoven technologies and development provides the filtration industry a wide range of products for numerous applications.

Brain Teaser

Tree-Tent is a logical game in which your mission is to locate all of the tents in the grid. Each tree is exactly connected to only one tent. A tent can be found in a horizontally or vertically adjacent square of a tree. Tents are never placed adjacent to each other, neither vertical, horizontal, nor diagonal. The numbers outside the grid give the total number of tents in the corresponding row or column. A tree might be next to two tents, but is only connected to one, and vice versa.

        Filtration Tradeshow Meeting with customers

National Nonwovens will not be exhibiting this year at the Filtration Tradeshow. The money used for displaying will be invested back into our research and development team for the creation of new and improved products. However, we will be attending the show and meeting with customers on a personal basis.

Trending in the Industry Composites with Multi-Performance Scenario's

Filter manufactures have been recognizing an increased interest in specific composites with a multi-performance capability.

To improve the effectiveness of the composite, manufacturers are being required to design composite filters without the use of adhesive to laminate layers together.

All of the components that are functioning as a filter must have dimensional stability throughout the entire material.

FIL007 is the first new generation of this new composite concept.

We will continue our 100 year history of engineering innovative nonwoven materials for the benefit of our customers.  If you want to determine if multi-performance filtration materials can improve your current products, contact us at 800-333-3469.
