which discusses solutions to the industry’s difficult challenges.

Filtration Challenge 6: Design a material that captures airborne bacteria and does not enhance bacterial growth.

Bacteria can range from a simple odor creator to something extreme making individuals very ill. It is sometimes difficult, if not impossible, to filter or contain these types of bacteria and prevent them from spreading. Advances in technology and medicines provide new techniques and products to achieve success in our stated challenge. National Nonwovens is a major player in that can produce a filter media to assist in bacteria containment.

Solution:

High Volume Air Filtration in a Medical Environment
	National Nonwovens FIL007 (with special anti-bacterial treatments)
		High permeability Low pressure drop High depth loading capabilities Made with 100% Polyester that can be cut or seamed with ultra sonics to form composites or pleated filter media Unique dual density construction enabling the media to contain activated carbon in composite structure Does not contain any heavy metals, BOC's, or organic solvents When chemically enhanced to control odor and bacteria, FIL007 is an excellent choice for filtering air in medical facilities or nursing homes.
High Efficient Air Filtration Media in a Medical Environment
	National Nonwovens FIL011 (with special anti-bacterial treatments)
		Durable filter media constructed with fine denier polyester fiber engineered for high efficiency filtering Permeability of 120 cfm's suitable for pre or post filtration Does not contain any heavy metals, BOC's, or organic solvents When chemically enhanced to control odor and bacteria, FIL011 is used as an excellent component/part for a single component or multi-media for filtering. This can be an integral part where a higher degree of contamination is not desired.
Filtration Media for Desiccant Bags & Air Conditioning Units
	National Nonwovens FIL006 (with special anti-bacterial treatments)
		Controls moisture while allowing air to flow through FIL006 9 oz. can be converted into bags filled with desiccant material and seamed using ultra sonics Does not contain any heavy metals, BOC's, or organic solvents When chemically enhanced with odor and bacteria absorbing technology, this material will provide a safer and more comfortable environment in private rooms for nursing homes, doctor's offices, and medical labs.

National Nonwovens anti-bacterial treated materials were tested by an Independent Lab. The results showed that 99.99% of all known bacteria that came in contact with these materials were killed.

Technology:

The filtering of submicron particles of bacteria can be achieved by the addition of specific chemical compounds that collect molecules on their surface. This type of filtering does not require the fine particle size media that is traditionally used. The specific engineering of these new compounds can control the amount of bacteria passing through the nonwoven to neutralize explicit odors produced by bacterial and prevents the growth of bacteria on the filter media. 

Other possible commercial uses for this new treatment material can be:

	Furnace and air conditioner filters
	Face mask filters
	Automotive cabin air filters
	House air filters
