Filtration Challenge 2
Lightweight Filtration Fabrics with Singed and/or Glazed Treatments

 Challenge:  Design a uniform, lightweight, glazed or singed filtration material with excellent efficiency and cost effectiveness

 PROTECTION” is a common buzzword in many industries, including filtration.  Many filter manufactures need an economic and efficient pre-filter to protect the primary filter.

Solution:   National Nonwovens’ engineers lightweight filtration materials (starting at 3.0 oz/yd2). The product is enhances with singed or glazed finishes for custom and standard applications.

Our lightweight, glazed material has permeability consistent with the unglazed base.  Now enhanced with a singed or glazed finish results in:

*   Low Delta P that allows the fabric to filter more but with less energy at higher efficiency

*  Glazed surface keeps the filtrate on the surface for quick release

*  Enhanced stability

*  Reduced elongation

Our new light weight filter media with singed and glazed finishes provides a lower cost media for improved pre-filter products that maintain a low Delta P and High permeability allowing more air to be filtered at a lower cost.

Applications:

*  Water

*  Blood filter

*  Auto filter – off-road vehicles

*  Air filter

*  Coolant filter

Composites – The Trend in Filtration

 Higher expectations and demanding end-users have made what once was a high-end, specialty niche market, an industry criterion.  Throughout the filtration industry, influential manufactures are implementing composites into filter product lines.

 Although composite usage has increased during recent years, they not easily standardized, as customers require specialty fabrics for their unique applications.  National Nonwovens’ applies this customization quality to the new composites listed below.

 New Products

TFIL13:  Four different density layers – three different filters with a finished surface.

*  Designed for high modulus and strength

*  Oil Filtration to allow oil to flow through fabric

*   Ultra smooth surface allows filtrate to form a uniform film to be transferred on to another surface

*  This is a true composite designed for specific requirements.

 TFIL16:  Layered up to 6 ply for an efficient coolant oil filter.

*   Cost effective

*   Good efficiency

*    Excellent uniformity

 TFIL15 - 100% polyester lightweight, unsupported with the option of a singed or glazed surface.

*  Excellent stability

*  Tremendous pleatability

Filtration 2001 • International Conference & Expo
Although overall attendance was down at Filtration 2001 in Chicago this past December, the number of key buyers was up.  These decision-makers were extremely focused on objectives and solutions as they sought specialized filtration applications.  National Nonwovens’ success at the show focused on emerging trends and product interests:

1.   Lightweight Filter Products – our lightweight materials (starting at 3.0 oz/yd2) attracted the most attention from booth visitors.   Special interest was given to our singed and/or glazed treatments on these products.

2.     PurusFelt®, - This trademarked product continues to draw attention from both current customers and new prospects.  PurusFelt® is all fiber, no scrim --- available in polyester for air filter media and polypropylene for wet filter media.  This product has lower elongation and increased strength for a wide variety of applications

3.   Composite Filtration – An increasing number of standard and specialty products are requiring composite components.

 If you were one of our visitors at Filtration 2001, thank you for your interest.

Current Events:

Terrorism – Forever Changed the Demand for Filtration Materials

Anthrax protection has become a global priority and at the forefront of fighting this threat are filtration devices.  Never in our industry’s history, has the success of filtration products been more crucial in many vital locations including mail handling systems, office buildings, and airline systems.

 What types of filter materials fight this deadly contaminant most effectively?

*  Sub-micron filter media

*   Anti-microbial filter media

*  Chemically enhanced filter media to neutralize hazards or contaminants

Market Trends and competition are creating a more demanding environment requiring more innovation and technology. The key to engineering new technology is the commitment of material suppliers to generate new ideas that can be transformed into new products providing increased performance over traditional materials. The new emerging needlepunch technology reflects our commitment to the filtration market. At National Nonwovens, we will continue to manage new technology to bridge today’s products and technology to meet the future market demands.
