Nonwoven Maintenance Mechanic

OBJECTIVE

Perform troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repairs to production equipment to ensure production line operation, under the supervision of the Nonwoven Maintenance Supervisor. Ensure the safe and productive performance of assigned duties and responsibilities to support the manufacturing of quality product and meet the goals of the corporation.

NATURE AND SCOPE

Job Classification: Hourly, full-time, non-exempt.

Reports To: Nonwoven Maintenance Supervisor

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

Inspect malfunctioning equipment, troubleshoot, diagnose and repair problems. Perform preventative maintenance, as needed, to ensure smooth operation or production lines.

Examine form and texture of machine parts to detect imperfections. Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements

Dismantle, and install machinery and parts as needed.

Perform repairs and/or modifications to parts and equipment as requested by Supervisor. Complete projects as assigned.

Accurately record daily/activities and complete related paperwork.

Available for off shift calls and/or call-ins.

Adheres to and uses safe work practices, following safety rules and regulations. Reports unsafe conditions or work practices to supervisor.

Maintain neat/clean/safe work area. Routinely clean equipment and tooling used in process (housekeeping).

Responsible for quality and expediency of work.

COMMUNICATION

Communicates regularly with others within limited areas of the organization for purpose of giving and receiving information closely related to work in progress.

DECISION-MAKING

Decision-making occurs on a limited basis and is based on clearly defined policies and procedures, established practices and explicit directions. Reviewed by Nonwoven Maintenance Supervisor on a daily basis.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Varying noise and heat levels, can be extreme. Continuous exposure to chemicals/dyes/fumes. Wet areas. Exposure to various types of fibers. Factory environment.

REQUIREMENTS

Training/Education: High School/GED/4 year diploma. Machinist trade school desired.

Experience:

  • 2 years experience in maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Machine shop experience helpful.
  • Textile maintenance or production experience highly preferred.

Other requirements: Have own tools. Ability to use, understand and create written materials related to the job. Forklift license. Confined space training.

TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED

Maintenance machines, supplies and related equipment. Safety and personal protective equipment. Measurement devices. Power tools, hand tools, machining/welding equipment, cutting torch, forklift, telephone, and common office equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

  • Perform repairs and other duties requiring physical agility, eye/hand, hand/foot and ear coordination, contortion and manipulation of arms and legs, hand/arm steadiness, weight balance, climbing up and getting under or into equipment and facility: frequency varies.
  • Lift various tools and parts: arm/upper body effort, 10-100 lbs.. varying lengths of time.
  • Use of hand truck and hand jack: walking position, arm manipulation, some leg effort.
  • Operate electric truck: keen vision, walking position, finger/arm manipulation.
  • Usually in standing and walking position.
  • Complete paperwork: manual dexterity, fine motor skills, keen vision: ongoing during day.
  • Frequent travel between plant locations.
